It's Coloring Time – Level Advanced!
After reading my previous article about all these coloring pages online, my colleague, Stew, popped out a question. “Hey, Claire, don’t you think it’s kind of limiting for kids who are learning to draw or trace with online coloring pages?
They can fill out the colors in just one click! Where’s the fun in that?”![]()
I have to say it’s a lot more fun for me when I am able to fill in the colors simply clicking the web page, the feeling I get when I complete a beautiful, colorful piece of art work in such a short space of time without lots of hard work is just so attractive. But if you would like your children to have some more realistic practice and coloring experience closer to the real thing, here is an option you can try.
On the BillyBear4Kids website, you have an option of starting a complete drawing from scratch. Of course, it’s a lot like the Paint application that’s bundled with Windows, but it’s in fact a lot simpler than that. The application layout is super easy to understand, and certainly less confusing than Paint.
Creating your own pictures is great fun, but you can of course always jump to a coloring page whenever you loose your creativity and just want some drawings to fill.

The cool thing about this online application is that it has this trace function which smaller children can use to help them keep the color inside the outline. Trust me, it makes our finished work a lot prettier. Unlike my melting Teddy bear below, which took me quite some time.

Other than the basic swatches you’ve got on the top of the canvas, there is a color spectrum you can use at the bottom of the page. It provides a virtually unlimited choice of colors.

Here is a tip for you. If you want to use your mini-note to play with such an advanced online coloring program, a bigger screen note-book like the newly released Samsung NC20 with a 12.1” screen will be a perfect choice. We don’t want coloring fun to have a negative effect on our children’s eyesight, or turn our kids to become cross-eyed, do we?

To make it really professional, here is my secret. Pen tablets like the Wacom Intuos makes is so much more realistic than coloring with a mouse. My 6” x 8” Intuos pen tables cost me around 200 US dollars two years ago.

You can accomplish different stroke styles with these pen tablet sets; however, these have to be done in more advanced software like the Photoshop or Illustrator.
