My browser follows me

How to carry a portable version of your web browser with you

Web surfing is my favorite pastime on my mini-notebook. I do have Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox installed on my mini-notebook. But I prefer Google Chrome because it is pretty faster than other browsers. But if I have to work on some other system, which has only IE or Firefox, I miss my Chrome a lot. One reason is that I don’t have my bookmarks and favorites with me and the other is the speedy browsing of Chrome. Here is how I carry Chrome with me in a pen drive with all my favorites and bookmarks stored in it.

Google Chrome Portable is a portable version of the Google Chrome browser that can be conveniently carried anywhere in a USB stick. You have your settings, bookmarks and favorites stored in a USB stick so that you can enjoy surfing by plugging it to any computer. It has all the features of Google Chrome such as multi tab browsing and saved thumbnails of frequently visited websites on the interface.

Google Chrome Portable is developed by Carsten Knobloch and is commonly known as Chromium. He is regularly updating the latest version of Chrome for download on his private website Caschys Blog. Don’t be disheartened to see the Spanish version of website; you can also download the set-up file of Google Chrome Portable from here. The set-up file is 17.6 MB.

Run the set-up file and extract it to the USB pen drive. A Portable Google Chrome folder will be created in your pen drive. You can now launch the browser by clicking the ChromeLoader file and can also start an anonymous session of browser by clicking the IncognitoChromeLoader file.

Please note that for updating the browser, you can simply copy the updates over the existing directory of Google Chrome. But make sure you don’t overwrite these updates on the profile directory, which stores user related data.

Now you don’t need to download or install anything; you can simply launch your favorite browser on any computer by just plugging in a USB flash drive. Even if you have Google Chrome running on your system, a fresh window of Chromium browser will open. It will have the shortcut links of Caschys Blog, Der Mozilla and Planet Chrome blogs.

You can now enjoy all the features of Chrome browser and start saving your bookmarks and favorites. You can view your browsing and downloading history in the same way. It will be safe and sound if you are surfing with Google Chrome Portable, in spite of the different systems you have been using in a day.

I can enjoy my favorite browser from a USB stick irrespective of the system I am using. Now whether I am working on my mini-notebook or a desktop in a public library, I can still have my browser with my favorites, bookmarks, and history intact.
