I can scan without a scanner
Written by Narmad
I have a faithful old scanner at home for my scanning needs. I was in the process of digitalizing my old family album, when the poor old thing broke down. The repair facility informed me that I could get a new scanner for the amount spent for repair. This is when I came to know about Snapter. How about killing two birds with one stone? Well, you can scan without a scanner and you can take it with you everywhere. No, you don't have to carry a heavy scanner while travelling! Your mini-notebook will do the job on the move. See how I learned to scan with Snapter.
Snapter is a utility software that allows you to scan documents such as business cards, boards, and books in the operating system itself. However, you need to have a digital camera to take the snap of the document you want to scan. Just take a snap and then you can leave it to Snapter to do the rest. Snapter not only scans, but also crops, corrects the perspective, automatically adjusts the light and even creates the output in PDF format. Snapter also gives an advanced option to scan an entire book. Click here to download Snapter.

You can use the trial version of Snapter for 14 days. However, the full version costs $49. Snapter won’t take much space in your mini-notebook as the installer file is just 11.9 MB.

The user interface of Snapter is clean without any frills. The user interface is divided into two blocks—‘Input Image’ and ‘Output Image’. The process to start a scan is pretty simpler. Once you take a picture using your digital camera, you have to transfer and save the image to your computer. On the interface of the Snapter, you need to click the ‘New Project’ option to insert the saved image to the ‘Input Image’ window.

The ‘Process’ button scans the entire image and displays the final output in the ‘Output Image’ window.

Users can optimize the image quality and can also enhance the color. The ‘Automatic border detection’ option enables Snapter to trim off the background.

My old scanner has retired to the warehouse and my Samsung NC20 has taken over it's role now with the help of Snapter. Now I carry my scanner also on the move!
