How to use Windows Home Server for exceptional backup operation

Windows Home Server, WHS, Backup and RestoreHope you found the first part of ‘Back up with Windows Home Server’ explaining the installation process of Windows Home server useful. Please follow the step by step instructions to complete the OS setup. Now it's time to add your network driver and install the Windows Home Server Connector Software. It can be done easily by following the instructions given in this post. Check this out.

If you haven't yet checked out the first part of the guide, please check it out here before proceeding.

Adding drivers for your network card

You may need several drivers such as VGA driver, Audio driver, LAN driver and USB driver, but the most important is the driver for your Network card, in short, the LAN driver. Most probably your motherboard CD will not include the LAN driver compatible for the Windows Home Server. In this case, go to your motherboard manufacturer's website and check if any LAN driver is there for Windows Home Server. If you do not get the LAN driver, you have to buy a new Network card, which includes the driver for the Windows Home Server.

It’ll be great if you can install drivers for graphic card and sound card also, but your server will still work without these drivers.

Configuring your network connection

After the successful installation of the LAN driver, now it’s time to configure your network connection. To configure:

Click Start - > Control Panel - > Network Connections

Windows Home Server, WHS, Backup and Restore

Click 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)' and then click 'Properties'

  • Automatically backs up your home computer/netbook/notebook.
  • Monitors the health of your home computer/netbook/notebook.
  • Enables you to configure and remotely administer Windows Home Server from your home computer/netbook/notebook.

Installation steps:

Insert the Windows Home Server Connector CD into your home computer/netbook/notebook connected to your home network. Wait for Windows Home Server Connector Wizard to start.

Please wait while your home server is located.
