A portable recycle bin

How to have a recycle bin on your external drive

recycle bin ,smartbook, notebook,USB drive, iBin, iBin reviewBesides my notebook, I always carry my USB flash drive with my important work files during my frequent trips. Last week, I found myself in a difficult situation when I deleted my invoice from the USB drive by mistake. To avoid similar problems in future, I installed iBin, a recycle bin for my USB drive. Now I can easily restore my deleted files. Let's explore iBin here.

When you delete a file from removable devices like USB flash drives, it disappears forever rather than going to the recycle bin of your netbook. Even the 'undo' function will not help you retrieve the deleted file. This leaves you with no choice but to depend on data recovery tools like Recuva to get back your deleted file.

iBin is a slim software, which acts as a recycle bin in an external memory device when connected to a any computer. This portable recycle bin is compatible with any version of Windows operating system and works on most of the removable devices. The installation is a simple process like most of the portable applications. You'll need to download the zip file on your netbook and then extract the iBin.exe into your removable device.

Once iBin.exe is installed, it will create a container in the root folder of the external device. You can access the iBin from the system tray of the netbook. If you remove the external device from your netbook, the iBin icon disappears from the system tray.

If you try to delete a file from an external device, iBin responds with a pop up message giving the user the option to delete the file permanently or dump it in to iBin. Like recycle bin, iBin stores all the deleted files and folders unless it is permanently  deleted by the user. The files can be restored back into the external device, if required.

If you click the iBin icon from the system tray, the ‘Dumping Management’ window pops up displaying all the deleted files from the external device.

From the ‘Custom Options’ window you can set up you own preferences. If you want to tweak the space limit of the iBin container, you can just drag the slider to increase or decrease the size. If the iBin container exceeds the space limit, the 'Auto-Cleaner' deletes all the data automaticaly. If you delete a file bigger than the size of the iBin container from the external device, it won’t store it in iBin.

iBin is a useful application to retrieve files deleted from USB drives with ease.
