Boost your RAM
Written by Roshi
I run a lot of web apps, browser windows and chatting applications on my netbook. Every now and then my netbook becomes really slow and all my applications hang for some time. I need to reboot to resume work. I was planning to upgrade the RAM to avoid this, but didn’t go for an upgrade as I found RAMBooster, a software to monitor and boost my netbook's RAM.
RAMBooster allows you to monitor the available RAM and CPU usage of your system or netbook. It also helps to free up the RAM and to run your netbook, notebook or desktop much faster without the need of rebooting. It will not only help you optimize the memory, but will also alert you when your RAM usage is very high. If RAMBooster finds the netbook RAM low while monitoring, then it will automatically boost it by finding unused RAM and returning it to the free pool.

Download RAMBooster from here and install the 3.56MB file to your netbook. RAmBooster is small software and installation is also quick.

Once the installation is complete, you can launch RAMBooster from the desktop shortcut. The small pop-up window consumes only a little space of your RAM and easily accommodates itself in the system tray when minimized.

RAMBooster will now help in freeing up the RAM space jammed by the closed windows and programs running at the background. RAMBooster icon in the system tray will be red and black if the system is running fine and will turn yellow if the free memory is low. When you move the mouse over the icon in the system tray, it will display the current free memory in your netbook. Double click on the red and black icon to open the pop-up window and right click on the icon to display the various options. You can set your preferences by clicking ‘Options’ from the edit menu.

RAMBooster allows you to manually or automatically optimize your netbook's RAM. You can manually optimize the RAM by clicking ‘Optimize’ from the pop-out window or by right clicking on the tray icon and clicking on ‘Run now’. You can also modify the settings to automatically optimize the RAM by selecting the ‘Set auto optimization on’ from the options. You can also set the MB of RAM to 'free' at ‘AutoLevel’ and a sound will come if you exceed the set RAM usage level. You can choose to switch off this sound from the settings options. Although RamBooster will automatically refresh every second by default, it can be modified using the settings options.

When your system starts, you can choose to launch the RAMBooster in the minimized mode in the system tray from 'Preferences'. It is easy to restart Windows and reboot quickly from the file menu of RAMBooster. You can also clean your clipboard directly from the RAMBooster interface. You can minimize the pop-out window to a smaller screen by switching to ‘Toggle mode’ to display only the memory free and CPU usage. The help menu explains each and every option effectively.

Currently, we are all multitasking with dozens of windows and apps open at the same. I find RAMBooster quite useful in freeing the RAM to run more programs.
