Uninterrupted buffering and downloading

How to speed up buffering from your netbook

Youtube, Notebook, smartbook, buffering, Videos, autobahn, netbookaThis year I don't need to stay in front of my television set to watch my favorite Indian Premier League 20-20 cricket matches. Since IPL has decided to stream it live from YouTube, I can watch the exciting moments of my favorite sports on my notebook while travelling . Before the proceedings start in March, I wanted to find a way to ensure smooth buffering of YouTube videos and discovered Autobahn to accelerate the downloads. Check out more.

It always feels great to get a little more out of the bandwidth provided by the ISP providers as more people are turning to online videos to view movie trailers, music albums, soaps, deferred matches and so on. The home page of  Autobahn website blatantly claims that autobahn will give a boost to the Internet connection for fast downloads and video streams.

To test the effectiveness of Autobahn, I decided to test my Internet speed with a website called Speedtest.net before I installed Autobahn on my notebook. Speedtest.net recommended testing the speed from the server located in Chennai. After the test was completed, Speedtest.net displayed download and upload speeds of 0.72MB/s and 027MB/s, respectively.

Installing Autobahn was as easy affair. You need to visit the website and click the ‘Go’ button on the home page to download the installer file and then complete the installation procedure.

After I downloaded Autobahn on my notebook, I wanted to test its effectiveness by running the Speedtest.net once again. The result was positive. My download and upload speeds increased to 0.95MB/s and 0.33MB/s, respectively.

Before installing Autobahn, I also decided to test the download speed of  YouTube. For the test I used my favorite, John Mayer’s  ‘Slow Dancing In A Burning Room’ video in Youtube, which is  6.12 minutes long. The video started at 5:20:00 and the full video was buffered by 5:23:52, in a duration of 4 minutes. After I installed Autobahn, the same video started at 5:30:04 and the buffering was completed by 5:32:55, which is little less than 3 minutes.

Do not forget to delete the temporary cookies and files before you perform the test with Autobahn everytime.

While the players will be sweating away inside the stadium, I will be witnessing the uninterrupted moments on my Samsung NC20.
