A Great Gift Idea – Personalized Magazine Covers
Well, it doesn’t necessarily have to be you – a good photo of a friend or family member would also make a great cover for use as a gift – but the online design system offered by YourCover.com is certainly quick and easy to use, and can result in a pretty professional-looking end product.
Once you’ve designed your cover there are a range of options to display it. You can have it emailed and print it out by yourself (US$14.95), or have YourCover.com print it on glossy paper and frame it for you (from about US$45 – 60 depending on frame type). There’s even the option of getting it put onto posters, mugs, mouse pads or t-shirts.
So just how hard is it to make one of these covers?
It turns out YourCover.com’s claim of being able to knock a cover together “in as little as 10 minutes” using their online creator is fairly accurate. Here’s how I made one up in about that time…
After signing in with an email address and password, you’ll be asked to select the type of event you’re designing for along with the date and name of the person/team/organization to be featured on the cover.

Then, after uploading the image you want to use you’re directed to a template manager where you can select the template that best suits your photo.

Next, you have the option of altering all the text on the template, including font styles, size, positioning and color.

All that’s left to do after that is to preview your cover; the one I ended up with after about 10 mins is below. Not too bad for a few minutes work.

You also have an option to design a back cover that can be displayed via an acrylic frame – presumably this back cover option is available for the t-shirts too although I’m not certain of that. I’m sure if you’re interested in trying YourCover.com out and using their service they’ll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Definitely worth a look if you’re in the market for a fun gift idea.
