No more sluggish video chats

I love to chat with my friends from my netbook while travelling. Video chat adds an element of fun to our group chats and we all really enjoy it. However, the sluggish chatting apps take so much time to load and run the video chats that we often limit ourselves only to text chat. But not anymore, as we now use TinyChat, an easy to use and fast to load group video chat application.

TinyChat started as disposable chat rooms for Twitter, but was re-launched with hundreds of cool features such as video chats for multiple users with recording and screen sharing options and a tiny chat application for Facebook chat. TinyChat is an easy to use online chat application that can run directly from a web browser. It doesn’t require you to download or install any application on your netbook. However, TinyChat chat rooms are disposable. So once you’ve finished chatting with your friends, you can automatically discard the chat rooms.

You don’t have to sign up for a new account as you can easily login from your Twitter or Facebook accounts. You can right away join any chat group without sharing your contact details. Security is the least concern on TinyChat as group creator can ban or mute anybody from the chat at any time. Once all the added people have left the chat, the chat room will be automatically be disposed off. It is also possible to subscribe to chat groups.

TinyChat is not an old application; it was started by Daniel Blake in January 2009. The TinyChat homepage displays the various chat rooms broadcasting currently on TinyChat. The homepage also has different channels and chat room categories such as comedy, gaming, learning, music, sports and technology. You can also sort out the channels by views, subscribers, comments, date created, and date featured. The chat rooms can be further arranged date wise based on whether they are active today, a week, month or year ago.

On mouse over, any chat room will show a small description and the number of people watching it currently. Click the chat room to enter and you will be asked to enter the log-in details. Login with your existing Facebook, or Twitter account, or you can create a TinyChat id by entering a chat room URL, email id and date of birth. 

Each chat room will display its creator's name, number of views, followers, date of joining and date of last signing in. You can also share the chat group URL with friends on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Delicious and Stumble Upon.

Once you are logged into any chat group, you can choose to inform your Twitter followers about your chat group and follow TinyChat on Twitter. Inside a chat group, you can see the video footage of 12 active users and a stream of text comments in a tiny text chat at the bottom. On the side bar, you can view the names of all the active users in the chat room. TinyChat limited the video display of only the 12 active users and views of 100 users at a time.

If your netbook supports a camera and the chat room has still not exceeded its 12 users limit, you can display your video by clicking on the ‘Start broadcasting’ button. There are different options to select your camera and mic, mute your mic or speakers, start desktop sharing, or access room starter controls. You can also choose to ignore a user or send private messages to any particular user from the active user stream.

You can create your own chat rooms directly from the home page. Select a name, and log in with your Twitter, Facebook or TinyChat id. Invite your friends to the group and start video chatting with multiple friends. You will get your group chat room URL from the side bar and can send it to friends or share it from TinyChat itself via sharing buttons. 

It was fun to create a chat room for my close friends. Now we can easily chat within minutes without struggling with sluggish chat applications.
