How to share videos on the move

pbvideo100pxMy friend is pursuing a film making course from a reputed film school in Chennai. Chennai is only a six-hour journey from Bangalore, where I stay. But in last two years, I could hardly find the time to visit Chennai. Recently, as part of his project, my friend made a film which was selected for screening at an Independent film festival.  Lucky guy! Well, even though I missed it, I managed to watch the film on my mini-notebook while at the Bangalore airport waiting for my flight to New Delhi. Thanks to Photobucket!

With the Photobucket service, I can watch videos at my leisure. Uploading large video files to video sharing websites has become simple. The magic of Photobucket is you can set the sharing at very distinct privacy levels unlike some other video sharing websites.

As mentioned in my introductory post on Photobucket regarding images I will share some inputs on the service for video. This post is a step by step guide to use the free online file storage site to store and share files and videos online.

This will also give you the mobility to watch videos on your mini-notebook while travelling.

I often watch my favourite videos on HP 2133 while travelling in cars and buses for my daily commute and short trips.

So, let’s check out how we can watch our favourite videos on the move.

First, open or sign up for a free online account with Photobucket.

Go To www.photobucket.com  and follow the instructions to set up an account for enjoying free video sharing. Enter your username and password and click ‘Next Step’ to proceed.

The email id you have entered is required for verification and confirmation of your new photobucket account.

Once you’re done, your account will be ready for uploading videos.

Choosing and uploading

Now, click ‘Choose Files’ to choose the files you want to store online. If your operating system is Windows, a file window will pop up for uploading videos for online data storage.

To share your videos, you can view the thumbnail of the video that you want to upload for online video sharing.

Navigate to the location of the video on your mini-notebook and click ‘Open’.

The dialog box will disappear, and the video will start loading. Videos will take longer to upload. The uploading time also depends on the speed of your internet connection.

Titling videos

You’ll have to give a title to the video for online sharing.

You can also click the ‘Save and continue’ option to store files online. This will redirect you to the ‘Choose files’ page of the video sharing website.

You’ll notice that when you go back to the ‘Choose files’ page, if you hover your cursor over the thumbnail for the video, a little faded box will appear. The little faded box contains links you can choose to share videos online by pasting the link into an email, browser, or internet message board.

Videos must be 5 minutes or less in play length and 100 MB or less in file size. Videos longer than 5 minutes are truncated to meet the Photobucket time constraints. For a pro account, Uploaded Videos must be 10 minutes or less in play length and 100 MB or less in file size. Videos longer than 10 minutes are truncated to meet the Photobucket time constraints.

If you’re a Pro user, then you can avail the advantage of transferring images to or from a Photobucket account using an FTP connection. After you are connected via FTP, you can drag-and-drop images in either direction

The video formats that Photobucket accept are 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, 3p, asf, avi, divx, dv, dvx, flv, gif, moov, mov, mp4, mpeg4, mpg4, mpe, mpeg, mpg, qt,  wmv, xvid, rm. All video files are converted to Flash Video (flv) format when you upload them.

Please note : Don't try to upload offensive or pornographic content as Photobucket prohibits such stuff.

So, there is no stopping you from being mobile with your videos!
