Capture screen with a single click

It has been a long time since I gifted my dad a brand new Samsung NC20. Nowadays he is exploring various desktop and web apps, but gets stuck a lot of times. Then I receive a call asking for help. Even if I give him dozens of solutions over the phone, it doesn't help him. However, when I explain to him in person, he understands easily. Now I simply capture each step on my screen on ScreenCastle and share the link with him. Let's explore ScreenCastle here.

ScreenCastle is a Java based screencasting application, which allows you to capture all the activity on your screen with a single click. It is a browser-based free screencasting application, which doesn't require downloading or installation of any software. ScreenCastle leads to a flash-based screencast, which can be shared and viewed over the Internet. It is ideal for creating software tutorials, demonstrations, how to videos and guides with a single click button on its homepage.

You don’t have to sign-up or log-in to record or view the screencasts. It can run on any operating system such as Windows, Mac or Linux, and the only requirement is Java Runtime environment. The home page has a big red power button to start recording and blank panels to display the links for sharing after your screencast is captured.

Once you hit the record button, the recorder will allow you to choose whether you want to record the full screen or only a part of the screen. Select the resolution size to resize the area of the screen you want to record. Then you can choose to select or unselect the use of microphone to record audio. Click on ‘Open the Recorder’ and the recorder will open with the ScreenCastle website in the background. Then hit the ‘Start recording’ button from the top and ScreenCastle will start recording all the activity on your screen.

Moving the mouse over the red line at the top of your screen, will pause recording the screen. Now you can choose to continue recording the screen or finish the recording.

After completing the recording, you can choose to preview your screencast or save it. When you save the screencast, you will be presented with multiple sharing options of ScreenCastle.

This includes a link to watch your screencast on ScreenCastle website and an HTML embed code to post the screencast in websites and blogs. Sharing options also include BBCode to embed screencast in forums, video ID, and address of large and small previews of the image. It also gives you a direct link if you wish to download the screencast.

ScreenCastle hosts your videos for free and never deletes it unless there has been no activity on your screencast for a long time. ScreenCastle has an integrated player to display your screencast. Although the site has no editing options, it is quite clean, fast and simple to use. My father found it really easy to understand without any extra effort from my side to record the screen to show him all the steps.
