The Tablet PC form factor has been with us for years and seen many different interpretations including the UMPC and more recently the MID. We take a look at the latest UMPC/Tablet offering from Samsung: the VIA Nano-based Q1EX.
Samsung was one of the first manufacturers to offer products in this space with their successful Q1 range which included the VIA C7-M powered Q1b. The tablet PC, as it was known to many, covered a range of devices that allowed you to use a stylus on the screen, most of them sans keyboard. The Q1b also became recognized as one of a slew of ultra portable PCs or UMPCS, in a simliar category to the VIA powered OQO Model 2 that won so many hearts back in early 2007.
The Samsung Q1 EX is the next generation of UMPC or tablet PC and is powered by a 1.2GHz VIA Nano processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, a 7 inch TFT touch screen 60GB hard drive with WiFI, WiMAX and Bluetooth options. The battery life is said to be around 4.5hrs using the standard 4-cell Ion battery and it runs Microsoft Windows Tablet Edition. Accessories include a carrying bag. strap and stylus.
